Vegan Therapy in Tribeca, NYC

Do you find it challenging to be a vegan in a non-vegan world?

For those living a vegan lifestyle, refraining from harming non-human animals is always top of mind. But being that we live in a society which rarely considers the interests of its animals, vegans often feel isolated, alienated, and misunderstood. Working with a vegan counselor can help with those feelings.

What vegans experience living in a non-vegan world

All too often, those choosing to follow a vegan lifestyle find themselves grappling with a world that doesn’t understand their decision to factor the needs and rights of animals into their daily actions.

Many vegans are met with hostility or ridicule, even from those who claim to care about them. Disturbing images of animal abuse and/or exploitation are everywhere – a constant reminder of how little non-human animals are valued in our world.

All of this can adversely impact a vegan's mental health and can be addressed in therapy for vegans. Below are some examples.

Reach Out With Any Questions on Vegan Therapy:

Coping with Non-Vegan Family Members

Many vegans experience a lack of support from their families who can’t understand why their family member is choosing a way of life that is different from how they were raised.

Romantic Relationships

If one member of the couple decides to adopt veganism as a way of life, both partners may need to discuss what might change in their lives and, between them. A therapist who understands veganism can be of great value in sorting this out.

Socializing with Non-Vegan Friends

A lot of socializing happens around meals and while engaging in common interests. When food requirements change and when some shared activities are no longer acceptable to the vegan, there's bound to be some negotiating that will need to happen.

Frequent Societal Reminders of our Non-Vegan World

Day after day, vegans come face to face with the reality they're living in a society which doesn't value compassion for non-human animals.

Whether that is smelling the grilled meat from a food vendor, seeing people walking around in fur coats, watching people fish at the beach, or hearing people discuss the size of their Thanksgiving turkey, the affront to vegan sensibilities is profound.

Additionally, vegans are acutely aware of what's happening to the world's wildlife. Countless species are becoming extinct. Humans continue to build on land needed by wildlife for their survival. This reality often elicits deep sadness and anger in vegans, and eco grief counseling can be very helpful.

Vegan Therapy Can Help You Navigate Life as a Vegan

The primary reason people decide to embrace the vegan lifestyle is an abhorrence of institutionalized animal abuse –the vegan identity. Being conscious of and attuned to the plight of animals can be overwhelming to people, often resulting in feelings of sadness, frustration, and anger.

Many vegans are engaged in important work to help animals, but may minimize their accomplishments. This can elicit feelings of hopelessness which they find hard to shake. Support for vegan compassion fatigue is available to you in vegan therapy.

My Approach to Working with Vegan Clients

As a vegan therapist, I understand the daily challenges confronting vegans. Being vegan in a non-vegan world can feel very lonely at times. I will make sure that you feel supported and understood.

A lot of vegans come to therapy having experienced trauma. Some of that trauma comes from their work advocating for non-human animals while for others, it's seeing horrific images on social media or witnessing animal abuse in their families. As a trauma-informed vegan-allied therapist, I can help you heal.

Many vegans experience challenges in their relationships with their family members, partners, friends, or co-workers. In vegan therapy, we will work together to improve the most meaningful relationships in your life.
